Our company

Denfind Stone began trading in 2004 when Brian and Alison Binnie recognised that a disused Angus sandstone quarry on their farm had the potential to meet the growing demand for local, high quality, natural and aesthetically sympathetic building materials.

During the 19th and early 20th Centuries Pitairlie Quarry was at the heart of the thriving Angus Sandstone industry. This industry provided stone for use in many projects throughout the UK and Europe until around the outbreak of the first World War when demand dwindled, and the Quarry ceased production in 1915.

Since reopening the Quarry, the business has relocated into a purpose-built production facility, housing state of the art stone processing machinery which enables us to supply an extensive natural stone product range.

Denfind Stone is fundamentally a local family business, with a commitment to providing the highest level of quality stone products, customer care and service to our clients.

Meet the team

  • Brian Binnie

    Owner & Director

    Brian started Denfind Stone back in 2001 following the purchase of the disused quarry. He has lived on, and farmed, Denfind Farm for over fifty years. The purchase of the old sandstone quarry adjacent to the farm gave him and Ali, his wife, the opportunity to diversify and meet the growing demand for natural building products that were sourced in Scotland.

    Owner & Director

    Ali has worked closely with Brian since the beginning of Denfind Stone in 2004 being involved in all aspects of the growth and development of the business. As the business has grown, Ali’s main focus is now on HR, admin and jumping in wherever she is needed.

  • Claire Findlay

    Sales, Admin & Business Development

    Claire deals with customer enquiries and has responsibility for business development and client relations with existing and new clients. She works alongside architects and the housebuilding and construction sector to ensure we are providing the best possible service and product for their needs.

  • Neil Paton

    Sales, Admin & Finance

    Neil joined the business in 2013 and primarily manages the financial aspects of Denfind Stone. He also deals with customer enquiries and orders, monitors stock control and liaises with David to ensure an efficient process from order to delivery.

  • Our Production Team

    The Denfind Production Team are passionate about Scottish stone. Working hard on site at our quarry in Monikie, the Production Team are experts at what they do – hand picking and finishing the stone so that it looks as aesthetically pleasing as possible on completion.
